SMSTS Classroom Training - Monday To Friday

In-Person SMSTS Training for Construction Professionals

Our SMSTS classroom training is designed for construction professionals who learn best in a physical training environment. This face-to-face SMSTS training is delivered by tutors with extensive site management experience, giving you practical insight into how health and safety is managed on real construction projects.

Rather than sitting behind a screen, classroom SMSTS training allows you to step into a structured learning space where discussion, shared experience, and practical problem-solving form the core of the training.

How Classroom SMSTS Training Works

SMSTS training is delivered over five structured days, focusing on the responsibilities that come with managing people, activities, and safety on construction sites.

The classroom format encourages active participation. You’ll be able to raise site-specific questions, work through scenarios based on real construction challenges, and learn directly from trainers who understand the pressures of site management. Training alongside other professionals also provides valuable exposure to different site setups, working practices, and approaches to safety management.

What You’ll Learn During SMSTS Training

This SMSTS training programme gives you a clear and practical understanding of what is expected from a site manager in relation to health, safety, and environmental control.

Training content includes:

  • Understanding your legal responsibilities under UK construction health and safety law

  • Developing, reviewing, and applying risk assessments and method statements on site

  • Recognising high-risk activities and implementing appropriate control measures

  • Running effective site inductions, briefings, and toolbox talks

  • Responding to incidents, completing accident investigations, and managing emergencies

  • Managing environmental issues such as waste, noise, and sustainability

  • Encouraging a site culture where safety is taken seriously by everyone

Everything covered during the training is focused on real-world application rather than theory alone.

Who SMSTS Training Is Aimed At

SMSTS training is suitable for individuals who hold, or are moving into, positions where they are responsible for site safety and coordination, including:

  • Construction site managers

  • Project managers and site agents

  • Senior supervisors with increasing responsibility

  • Anyone required to demonstrate competence on sites operating under CDM regulations

Across the UK construction industry, SMSTS training is widely accepted as the benchmark qualification for site management safety competence.

Assessment and SMSTS Certification

At the end of the SMSTS training, learners complete a formal assessment made up of multiple-choice questions and scenario-based tasks. These are designed to test your ability to apply health and safety principles in practical site situations.

On successful completion, you will receive an official SMSTS certificate issued by CITB. The certificate remains valid for five years, after which refresher training is required to keep it current.

Why Choose Classroom-Based SMSTS Training?

Classroom SMSTS training is particularly well suited to learners who benefit from interaction, discussion, and structure.

Key advantages include:

  • Direct access to experienced trainers throughout the training

  • Group-based learning using shared site experiences

  • Practical exercises that reflect real construction challenges

  • A dedicated learning environment with fewer workplace distractions

  • Opportunities to connect with other professionals in similar roles

For many managers, this face-to-face approach helps embed learning more effectively than remote training.
